Lost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?

I am a new driver with my very first car which is an old second hand car (nothing flashy). I just recently lost/stolen my car keys which is the only set of keys to my car. I've been told that I need to take it to the garage where they will change all the locks etc. My problem is that without my keys, I can't move my car. Any advice?

I've got AA breakdown cover and fully comprehensive car insurance if that's any helpLost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
If the car isn't at your house, AA will come and get you in your car and may even have a spare set of keys that fit. Some older cars (esp Fords!) they only made a few different locks so the keys to one car probably fitted about one in ten of the same model! Should be able to get replacement keys rather than have the aggro of changing locks.Lost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
Why don't you just call a locksmith to come to the car and cut a key if your worried about someone having your keys you can get all the lock's re keyed as well. Being old as you state it's probably not a transponder if it was a locksmith could program those as well.

You can re pin a old lock to fit a different key it's really not that difficult of a procedure. You don't have to buy new locks and tow it to a garage and do all that other great advice you've been given. A lot of locksmith do work with roadside companies as well so some of the cost may very well be covered.Lost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
you can get another key from the manufacturer of your vehicle. or you could do as the garage suggest and change the locks.

Check with both the AA and your insurance company to see if they will transport your vehicle to your nominated garage. Some Insuranve policies include loss of key cover, you need to read your policy.

However you needto decide if your keys are lost or stolen, as it makes a differenceLost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
If you have a good insurance policy they may cover the cost of replacing locks after your keys are lost or stolen.

Why not read the policy wording?

If you decide you want this cover in the future please contact a local insurance broker for advice and state that this is the cover you need.Lost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
when my key stopped working the RAC recovered my car to the main dealer to get the replacement programed, go to the dealership first with your log book as proof of ownership and ask the question if they can collect the car, they are desperate for your money at the moment so might oblige, but dont arrange to take the car down until they have got the key made, i had to wait 2 weeks for mine to come from france and it cost me 拢125 for the replacement, i hope you havnt got a renault like i had, never again will i buy one of those, i only sold it for 拢700 and the key cost 拢125 of thatLost/stolen car keys and no spare Help Please (UK)?
Contact the main dealer, they may be able to order the key for your vehicle so long as the locks have never been changed in the past.

The new key probably wont start the engine as it will have an immobiliser if it's a modern car, but it'll let you get in the doors and release the steering lock allowing you to tow/recover the car to the dealership and have the key programmed.

Call the AA, they should be able to send someone out to tow your car to the garage so you can get the locks fixed.
