I have a 2002 VW Golf. The "keyless entry" works to open trunk and lock car but won't unlock the car. (?)?

This started after changing battery. Do I need to take it to VW (where it costs $100 to change a headlight) or is there something I can do myself? Cheers.I have a 2002 VW Golf. The %26quot;keyless entry%26quot; works to open trunk and lock car but won%26039;t unlock the car. (?)?
Fristly, I must assume that the battery is connected correctly, given this assumption, you can try to reprogramme the keyless entry remotes. Given that these worked before you changed the battery (the main car battery, no a battery for the remotes, right?), then the remotes need to be programmed to the car again.

You will need two keys; one needs to be put into the ignition and then turned to the %26quot;on%26quot; position, but not cranked over. Click the ignition on until the so called %26quot;idot lights%26quot; on the instrument cluster come on. Put the other key with the remote into the driver's door lock and turn it to the locked position and hold it for about 10-12 seconds or so. The red alarm light should come on, indicating that the system is armed and ready to go. Once the 10 to 12 seconds is over, turn the key to the centre position and kit the unlock button (do this within 2 seconds or less after turning the key back to centre position) and the turn signal lights should flash. If they flash then the keyless entry remote should be programmed to the vehicle. You need to repeat the proceedure with the other keyless entry remote to get it to work also. From time to time, you may end up having to do this once again to the first remote that you programmed; don't be alarmed, this sometimes happens.

If you're unable to programme the keyless entry remotes, then you'll need to take it to either a VW specialist or the dealership service department and most likely they will have to use the VAG scan tool and run a routine to make the force the system to programme to the remotes.

If a %26quot;forced programme%26quot; doesn't work, then a fault lies in either wiring, at the drivers door latch/actuator, a comfort control module or something else. But, based upon the information that you've provided, re-programming the keyless entry remotes should do the trick.

Hope this helps, a car nut.
