ive changed the battery in the key, and the boot opens, no problem. but opening is tempremental. please help as im the only one who can get in the car by using the key lock on the drivers door.Before i start shelling out cash. my bmw is not opening with the key, however it locks with the key help???
I believe that you are referring to the key remote not opening up the door locks after you changed the battery.
If it took you a long time to replace the remote's battery, then it would lose its initialization and would not work as you mentioned. But quick remove and replace battery replacement does not.
To re-initialize, gather all your keys for the car, open the driver's door, start the engine for a few seconds, remove the key, point it upwards in the general direction of the rear view mirror, press and hold the unlock button, then press the
lock button 3 consecutive times.
Do the same with the other keys immediately but do not start the engine. When done with the last key or second key, continue to hold the unlock button until the locks cycle off and on, or until approximately after 30 seconds.

Make sure the windows inside and outside are really clean especially around your sensor and that your key is also clean.
Try using it with the car somewhere else in case it is radio interference. This can be from all sorts of things including a Router. One of my local Waitrose shops causes me a problem i the car park.

door latch worn out probably,had same thing :-( cost not cheap to fix,paid 300$ at BMW,even very easy job to do. If decide to repair,go independent store
