What is the best anti theft device for a car?

My car was recently stolen when I drooped my key. Thankfully, the car was recovered; however my key is still out there somewhere. I am not yet able to get all of the locks and ignition changed yet and need to know what is the best thing to deter anyone with the key from taking the car again. What is the best anti theft device for a car?
a nice secure garage....but failing that either lojac (which is an onboard gps that notifies the authorities of the exact location of the vehicle when reported stolen). The only downside is its expensive but if you ever have a nice car you want to make sure its safe and protected. If you cant afford that I would say an expensive car alarm, a car club, and a detachable face (car stereo) would be your best bet. What is the best anti theft device for a car?

Just make sure you take your keys with you and keep them on you at all times. If you need to, put an alarm on your keyring that lets you know you dropped it.

Car Keyless Entry can lock but cannot unlock?

A friend borrowed my car and I think he might have unknowingly changed the settings of the keyless entry system when trying to figure out the remote. I have a Autostart brand remote car starter with keyless entry. The remote starter still works fine as far as I can tell. The keyless entry system is hooked up to an actuator that moves the driver side lock. Right now, the doors can be locked with the remote, but cannot be unlocked with the remote. The door also immediately locks itself again after I unlock it manually with the key. I suspect the system may be in a %26quot;locked-down%26quot; mode and a simple combination of buttons can disable it. Any suggestions I can get on this problem will be much appreciated. Thanks!Car Keyless Entry can lock but cannot unlock?

Is there any one who can make a key for my car.?

ok well i bought a car and i have the key for the car. but it seems that my cars door locks have been changed. because my car key cant open lock/unlock the doors and trunk and i was wondering if theres any locksmith that can make a key for that.Is there any one who can make a key for my car.?
If the factory key does not work than a dealership cannot make a key for you because they have no way of knowing what lock is now in the doors. If you just do not have the door key then the dealership can make you a new key. You will need to bring them the registration with VIN and an ID so they know you're not stealing it. If the locks have really been changed then you will need to call a locksmith. See if you bring the car to them if it will save you money. They will make a key for you, but it costs quite a bit. Don't know how much in your area, but about $100 here. You could also just put new locks in yourself. Costs about $10 each at a parts store with keys. Is there any one who can make a key for my car.?
the dealership where you got the car. if u bought the car privately you can go to the dealership that sells your car brand. Is there any one who can make a key for my car.?
Yeah im sure that there is but it's not me!!Is there any one who can make a key for my car.?
go back to the dealer and show him the problem as you will need all your locks changed because without a key you can't make a new one, dealer that sold you this car should be responsible for this one.

I don't have Mitchell or Alldata on hand (here at the house) and I am on vacation, but I can tell you that normal shop charge per door, including hatch, is about .8 - 1.2 per lock. The ignition cylinder could range from .5 - 1.5. Also remember that if you want your new

cylinders keyed to match the old ones (now cylinders don't need new keys,) lock-smith charges could be involved. Lock smiths usually charge (in Houston, TX) about 20 per cyl. Good luck and let me know if I can help more.

Car remote battery keeps dying why?

Every week I have to change my car key remote battery because it does not work any more. Why is this happening. It was amazing that when I took out the battery out of my key and miss an press the lock bottom on my key the car locked. What had me puzzled was that there wasn't any battery in the key. This happened once.Car remote battery keeps dying why?
Sounds like you have a problem with your keyless remote. That's about all the help you can get from this site, for this problem.Car remote battery keeps dying why?
Maybe you are sitting on the button while I drive and killig the battery. Or maybe the battery itself just won't hold a charge anymore. Charge it, take the battery out for a week and then put it back in and see if it's dead. If it dies without being in the remote then replace the battery. As for the car locking with no battery, it's possible that there is a capacitor in there that had enough juice to power one keypunch. Or maybe you might be high. lol. I bet it's just a bad battery, sounds like it.Car remote battery keeps dying why?
It's possible that button is sticking on your fob and sending a constant signal. This would drain the battery.

when changing out the battery you should see something like a cylinder with an opening on top. If you look inside there should be like plus sign, use a very small flat head screw driver and turn the plus sign thingy inside the cylinder really slowly bit by bit. Why doing so, hit the arming or disarming button. When your alarm chirps, you got it. That is like a frequency changer whatever, anyways I learned that from cousin who installed alarms for a living. How to fix a car remote entry?
Sounds as if your Master Solenoid has packed up or loose connections in your wiring loom. You will have to take the trim from inside the drivers side door off so you can get to the solenoid %26amp; check the wiring is intact, there are certain tests you can do to check the solenoid but it can be rather involved %26amp; may be better to leave it to a garage or Car electric engineer.Sorry I can't help more than this but hope you get it sorted out,How to fix a car remote entry?
maybe the remote is bad. you can test it by going to your local auto parts store. they typically have a remote tester on the counter.

Go to the dealer... make sure you have information proving you are the legal owner. Some... Some dealers will not give out the code without a title some other proof you own it.

As for how much it costs, I'd call and ask. Some may charge, as someone else's answer suggests, close to $80. Others may be more lenient. You may try talking to someone in a different department, like parts. They may be willing to bend the rules if you're just looking for that code...

One last thing. If this is the radio that came with YOUR car, you should check the manual. A lot of times it's listed in there... Check it out before you do anything. How can I get the code to unlock my car radio?

Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?

On Friday my car key snapped. Annoying in it's self however I also have the problem that the only spare key i have only opens and locks the car but won't turn in the ignition. Has anyone got any ideas? Do I need to change the whole barrel?

It's a second car so I don't know if the barrels have been changed before therefore if i order of the chasie number it may be 拢100 wasted.Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
If your key is chipped then place the broken key as close to the point where it would normally be to start the car.

then with the spare key turn the ignition as normal.

You should be able to get the car to start but may take some tinkering around.

If this works then try to glue or tape the immobiliser in the correct place and you need to get a new key cut.Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
depends on the make of the car but some have inbuilt engine demobiliser, chip in the key. the spare will only work to open the door. is a security feature of most modern (less than 9 year old) cars. sorry but you'll need original key to be cut and coded...Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
Go To The dealership,, GM - Ford - Etc. Go to the parts dept. take the serial of the car with you and also the old key parts ..if theres a chip in it they need to take a reading of that chip.. Theres records,,, they can call for a code, and make you a set of factory Keys...I have done this many times.. they work much better than the aftermarkets too ,, they punch them out instead of grinding them same as the worn ones..I hope this helps you.... Good LuckSnapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
It depends on what make the car is and how old it is. Some cars use keys that are coded into them, but if the key isn't used for a while it could become de-coded. It could be that your key needs recoding, or it could be the barrel has been changed in the past.Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
If, it not a %26quot;Smart Key%26quot; the one that snapped if you have all of it, try going to a locksmith or place that make keys. They may be able to try and make another. May not be able to guarantee it, but, it worth a try.Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
If you still have the Pieces take them along to you local Key Cutter and see if he can achieve a copy from what's left.

I agree it may become overly expensive otherwise.

(A little more info on the make / model of car may help here)Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?
I'm sorry to hear that. It could be that there is still a little piece of the old key inside or the little teeth that make up the lock have been damaged. You can have the barrel taken out and hev it checked by a locksmith. They do that type of thing. I don't think it it should have to be completely replace. Just don't try to force the switch because you could really damage it and then it'll be useless.Snapped my car key and spare wont start the car?

Changing Power Lock Option/Feature in Toyota Corolla?

I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla. When I put my car into park, the power locks unlock all doors. I assume that this is a safety feature so you can't lock your keys in the car, but I'm wondering if there is a way to override this (that a mechanically impaired person could do). For instance, if I'm sitting in a parking lot, on a street, or at a railroad crossing in a questionable neighborhood, I wouldn't want my doors unlocked. Do I simply have to lock my doors again after putting it in park?Changing Power Lock Option/Feature in Toyota Corolla?
If you still have your owner's manual, go to page 21 for complete directions. If you don't, it reads like this:

    1. Set the interior light switch to the

    “DOOR” position. (See “Interior light”

on page 93 in Section 1?5.)

    2. Shift the selector lever into the “P”

    position and close all doors.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON”

    position.

    4. Within 5 seconds after the ignition

switch is turned to the “ON” position,

push and hold the power door lock

switch on the front side for about 5

    seconds.

    5. The interior light will flash to indicate

that the mode has been changed.

The flashing of the interior light indicates

the mode which has been selected.

    Flashing once, the function has

    changed to mode 1.

    Flashing twice, the function has

    changed to mode 2.

Flashing three times, the function has

    changed to mode 3.

Flashing four times, the function has

    changed to mode 4.

If the battery is disconnected or run down,

the mode may change. Set the desired

mode by following the above procedure.

    Mode 1—Automatic locking linked

    with the shift position

All doors are automatically locked when

the selector lever is moved out of the

“P” position with the ignition switch in

the “ON” position and all the doors are

    closed.

    Mode 2—Functions cancelled

    Automatic door locking and unlocking

functions do not activate in this mode.

    Mode 3—Automatic locking and unlocking

    linked with the shift position

    Locking function—All doors are automatically

    locked when the selector lever

is moved out of the “P” position

with the ignition switch in the “ON”

position and all doors are closed.

    Unlocking function—All doors are automatically

    unlocked when the selector

lever is moved to the “P” position with

the ignition switch in the “ON” position.

    Mode 4—Automatic locking and unlocking

    linked with the shift position

    and ignition switch

    Locking function—All doors are automatically

    locked when the selector lever

is moved out of the “P” position

with the ignition switch in the “ON”

position and all doors are closed.

    Unlocking function—All doors are automatically

    unlocked when the ignition

switch is turned from the “ON” position

to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position.

Hope this helps. God Bless!Changing Power Lock Option/Feature in Toyota Corolla?
Try your owner's manual. I think this can be programmed differently. I think it involves operating the remote in some special sequence. If the om doesn't tell you maybe if you take it to a Toyota dealer for an oil change they will re-program it for free. it can't take more than 30 seconds if you know the secret code.

  • Does changing the battery in a car effect the immobilizer?

I have just recently changed the battery in my car as it was flat, I noticed it was going flat when the central locking had stopped working (It only worked every now and then when I held the key right up to the in-fared bit). The car had started up fine with no problem before. So I changed the battery and its all fitted correctly, but the car will still not start, and the central locking will still not working even after changing the battery.

I have a theory that the %26quot;Code%26quot; for the immobiliser / central locking has been reset or forgotten by the key. Am I right in thinking this?.

Before when the immobiliser was active, the car would start up and cut out again, the immobiliser could be reset by just locking and unlocking the car. But at the moment the car just wont start.

If it is the code, is there any other way in which I can get the code reset other than a dealership? they charge a fortune!

Just out of curiosity what vehicle is this?

If the car has central locking (which it most likely does if you have the lockset linked to the BCU) then you will need to get a full lockset replacement.

Best thing to do is take it to a main dealer for the brand of vehicle you drive. They will order the lockset then program it in to the car and you will then have 2 keys again, this will be quite expensive compared to just having to buy a new key that it made to the individual chassis number.

The other option is to speak to the people who had the car before you if you can to see whether they have an invoice that you could get the key ID number.... bit of a long shot though!

If you know 100% that it was just a loss, then don't worry about it. What I mean is that there might be a chance that somebody that knows you swiped them, and will use them at a later date. If you know for sure that you randomly lost them, the odds of a stranger knowing where to use them is very very slim, unless there is a card or any type of tag on your keyring that could trace it to your address like a blockbuster card or kroger card. So I personnaly wouldn't change all that, plus you should have some sort of insurance (renters, home, auto).I lost my sisters car%26039;s car key (it was a duplicate). our house key is in the same key ring. what should i do?
Do you have any idea where you lost the keys at or when? Was there any identification with the keys? Could someone you know have taken them?

It will get pretty expensive to replace all the locks on the car and the house. I would be more worried about the house than the car though. You should inform your parents of the problem so that they can replace the locks themselves and save some money. You most likely will only have to replace two or three locks on the house.

The car will involve some more work, go to a dealer if her car is a late model with an anti-theft option on it. If it is an older car then you can get away with just going to a locksmith and have him change the tumblers and give you new keys. You will have to change both doors, the trunk, and the ignition and possibly the glove box, if it locks. You might be money ahead if you can find a comparable car in a salvage yard and take all those locks and get the VIN number in case you need to get another key. Good luck.I lost my sisters car%26039;s car key (it was a duplicate). our house key is in the same key ring. what should i do?
It really depends on where they were mistakenly left at and if they had your personal address on them. Since you do not know this then it is probably a good idea to change your locks, just to be on the safe side. If you decide to change your locks I would sign up for a key protection service so if you lose your keys again the company has an address that if found the keys can be dropped in the mail to the company and return safely to you. Some of these companies charge between 10 to 40 bucks a year for this service.

Take to dealership, and have ignition rekeyed. No coverage under insurance for that, but if you have comp, or coll there may be coverage for rekeying door locks on car, just not ignition,, then would need to file claim for lost house key to have those redone.I lost my sisters car%26039;s car key (it was a duplicate). our house key is in the same key ring. what should i do?
You can go to the dealer with the vin number and get a new key cut.

Don't use your fingernail, you'll break it off trying to open it. Just find a flat-head screwdriver and put it in the notch at the top of the remote. Twist it, and it should pop open. Take off the red rubber seal from the inside, and the battery will be underneath. Is there a way to change the battery on your remote car door lock thingy?

Your car loves you and would hate to see you fall out while reversing and then roll over you. it couldn't live after that.

But seriously, it doesn't want you to open one of it's doors so it can get ripped off by something while it's going backwards. That hurts.

It's a programmed safety feature. I don't think it's really a problem unless one day your car locks the doors and wont let you get out and drives itself off a cliff.Lexus ES300 automatically locks doors when changing gears.?

Some of the sensors or other electronic things may be malfunctioning or wiring may be shorting some things. I recommend that you take it into the dealer and have it checked out. Since she let you move in, you are a tenant; she has no right to lock you out, she must give you a three-day notice to remediate (pay the rent) and then proceed with eviction in court.

    http://fairhousingoc.org/landlord.htmlq

    Q. Can a landlord lock a tenant out for not paying rent?

    A. No. A landlord may never lock a tenant out of their apartment. Also, a landlord may not shut off utilities or other services for failure to pay rent or any other reason. Actions such as these by a landlord will give the tenant the right to sue the landlord for committing a self-help eviction. A tenant may be locked out by the Marshall if the landlord wins the Unlawful Detainer Action in court.

She also has no right to keep your things or prevent you from having access to them and I doubt he can refuse to let your bf get them, but that's maybe a little murky.

You should call the police and file a report. It is a gross and obvious violation of the law what she has done. Here is the relevant law:

789.3. (a) A landlord shall not with intent to terminate the

occupancy under any lease or other tenancy or estate at will, however

created, of property used by a tenant as his residence willfully

cause, directly or indirectly, the interruption or termination of any

utility service furnished the tenant, including, but not limited to,

water, heat, light, electricity, gas, telephone, elevator, or

refrigeration, whether or not the utility service is under the

    control of the landlord.

    (b) In addition, a landlord shall not, with intent to terminate

the occupancy under any lease or other tenancy or estate at will,

however created, of property used by a tenant as his or her

    residence, willfully:

    (1) Prevent the tenant from gaining reasonable access to the

property by changing the locks or using a bootlock or by any other

    similar method or device;

    (2) Remove outside doors or windows; or

    (3) Remove from the premises the tenant's personal property, the

furnishings, or any other items without the prior written consent of

the tenant, except when done pursuant to the procedure set forth in

Chapter 5 (commencing with Section 1980) of Title 5 of Part 4 of

lawful eviction of a tenant by appropriate legal authorities, nor

shall anything in this subdivision apply to occupancies defined by

    (c) Any landlord who violates this section shall be liable to the

tenant in a civil action for all of the following:

    (1) Actual damages of the tenant.

    (2) An amount not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) for each

day or part thereof the landlord remains in violation of this

section. In determining the amount of such award, the court shall

consider proof of such matters as justice may require; however, in no

event shall less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250) be awarded

for each separate cause of action. Subsequent or repeated violations,

which are not committed contemporaneously with the initial

violation, shall be treated as separate causes of action and shall be

subject to a separate award of damages.

    (d) In any action under subdivision (c) the court shall award

reasonable attorney's fees to the prevailing party. In any such

action the tenant may seek appropriate injunctive relief to prevent

continuing or further violation of the provisions of this section

during the pendency of the action. The remedy provided by this

Ask assistance from local law enforcement agency to settle the issue and pay what you owe her (if any) and get your things. There is no reason for her to keep your things from you especially if you owe her nothing. That's against the Law. You may already consider that as stealing.

after fitting thermostat fill radiator turn your heater to hot dont need blower on leave top off expansion tank and let the engine idle you will see the water rising as air is escaping keep topping water up until no more air comes out the main reason for air locks is because people forget to turn heater up to hot this stops the small radiator inside the car from filling. How do i re-fill my car radiator without getting any ait locks?
Run it up to Temperature with the water cap off

When its up there %26quot;squeeze%26quot; the water pipe below the rad so that the air bubbles come out in the opening of the water cap

When the bubbles stop and its just water coming to the surface then you've got rid of the air lock

Fill it up, run it a while, and it should blow any air up to the top of the system, CAREFULLY..release the air by CAREFULLY removing the cap on the header tank, and then top up when it has cooled down a little.

The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?

I bought a Lexus SUV yesterday from a used car dealership. Making a long story short, they were very shady people and I'm just glad that I no longer have to deal with them. However, I'm concerned because cars typically come with two keys, right? I'm worried that they are holding the spare key and might attempt to steal our car, since they now know our address. Am I justified to be worried? I would hate to spend a few hundred on getting new locks for my Lexus, which I understand could cost $500.The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
this happens all the time, the person who traded it may not have gave both sets, or they did and the second didn't get labeled and now sits in a drawer, just ask them for the second key, as far as being worried about theft, if they want it they'll get with or without a keyThe used car dealership only gave me 1 key. Install a Low-Jack. It helps to lower your car insurance. The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
The short answer is yes...If you spent the kind of money a Lexus SUV cost, what's another few hundred for peace of mind and security? Also, I'm sure you're aware, you can't just go to a hardware store to get new keys! There's a security chip in the key.The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
I really think that you should ask the the Dealership to order a spare key for you at no extra cost since all cars comes with a set of 2 keys, either it's a new vehicle or a used one they should provide you with a spare key. aside from that you have nothing to worry. The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
If your purchasing a nice car like a Lexus and they are acting like that, Im not sure if they were the best people to buy from. However, now that you have your dream car just be careful. I'm kinda nervous so I would probably change them. A good dealer would find the key or offer to change your locks. This sounds like a mess. I would ask the dealer to change the locks for your safety. If they refuse, change them and file a corporate complaint. Sorry bout all this! The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
Even if you change it they could still have a key as there only s many key combo's. I would not worry just get another key made. Besides if they want your car they can just take it.The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
Lexus from a shady dealer. hmm...don't even bother trying to get the other key from them. I suggest spending the extra money and get them changed. The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
I agree with the last guy. When cars are traded in at a dealership, sometimes they only get one key. I don't think it is a matter of them holding a key to come get your car unless you bought from a tote the note lot. If this is a franchise dealer that arranged financing for you or you paid cash for the car, they could care less about you and your car as long as they have their money for it. Since it sounds like no one at the dealer can come up with another key, you need to go to a local Lexus dealer and get another key made for the car. The old key and the new key will need to be programmed together.

If the fact that there is another key out there makes your butt pucker, then go through the expense of getting all new keys and locks, but you still need to go through a Lexus service department to do this so that warranties are not voided due to an outside vender messing with the electrical.

Good luck! The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
Don't waste your money on re-keying everything. These are pre-owned vehicles and keys get lost in transit, either from the new car dealership that auctioned the unit, or from the auction itself, keys get lost. I would spend the money on getting a spare key.The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
ZORZO - if your car has the original locks that were installed in the factory - they dont even have to hold your spare key they can make a copy by typing in the VIN ( vehicle identification number ) so if your not going to get the locks changed ( i see it is very expensive ) then dont sweat asking for another key because like i said they can make a cut form the vin number -

you may want to call and talk to a manager at another lexus location in that area and ask for a district managers number - possibly talk to them -

consider a kill switch - but please dont put it in the normal place - under the dash in the glove box -

try somewhere like running the wire under the carpet and into the air vent - some where most people dont place them -The used car dealership only gave me 1 key. They claim the 2nd is missing. Should I get my locks/keys changed?
I have bought all my car used and NEVER had more than one key, I have to do a copy myself.

Don't sweat, car thieves don't need a key to steal any car, so your car probably is as vulnerable as any other car in the street.

If you want to feel safer, get a lock or an alarm, it would be good for your insurance and you will feel better.

Can I change the sound of my car when I lock the car?

I hate the beep sound of my car when i locked it. (honda civic 2007). Where can i go make that change? Can I change the sound of my car when I lock the car?
if it is a stock securiy system that came from the dealer, the sound comes from the actual car horn, really the only way to change that, is to buy a new horn, or have the factory alarm disabled, and install an aftermarket one. New horns that are louder usually run about $25 - $55, and alarm systems can be a bit higher. So it's all about how much money you want to spend, or if you just want to deal with the annoying sound. I have a 06 Corolla that has the same problem, but it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about.

My 2009 chevrolet Aveo stirring wheel locks , the whole car becomes idle and can't control the car have to?

use the hand brake to bring the car to a stop.this started to happen after we had the oil changed .My 2009 chevrolet Aveo stirring wheel locks , the whole car becomes idle and can%26039;t control the car have to?
Bring it to the dealer to get repaired, it is still under warranty so it won't cost you anything (unless the problem is due to damage that was caused during the oil change, rather than due to a defect with the car - but in that case then hopefully the responsibility for the damage is with the place that changed the oil).

If the dealer is too inconvenient, you can actually get warranty repairs done at most other auto mechanics too - it doesn't have to be the dealer. Call a place and ask.My 2009 chevrolet Aveo stirring wheel locks , the whole car becomes idle and can%26039;t control the car have to?

Can Car Locks be Tailored To An Existing Key?

Hi, i brought a clio 1.4 5DR RT MK1 and the key lock on the drivers side door has been changed (i have a separate key for the drivers side) because the ignition key doesn't work in the drivers side door but works in every other door (and indeed the boot) so can door locks be 'cut' to the ignition key? with out having to change every door lock and have a new set of keys. Can Car Locks be Tailored To An Existing Key?
I dont think so,and if they could,it would be costly, just put up with it,but get some extra keys cut as a back up.Can Car Locks be Tailored To An Existing Key?
Yes, but it would be prohibitevely expensive. Live with it.Can Car Locks be Tailored To An Existing Key?
Yes they can, in fact many of these cylider come %26quot;uncoded%26quot; and must be coded at the dealer or by a locksmith. You need to call a locksmith or take it to a RENAULT dealer. It will definitely not be free but nothing in life is!

I can't believe how stupid some people are with their answers.... you did not know so you did the intelligent thing in asking but the people who answer these questions and do not know what they are talking about should save themselves the embarrassment!

Can I change the locks on the car?I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Depends if his name is on the car... if not and its just you then its yours!I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
    it belongs to you

you can change the locks if u wantI am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Generally, if it is in your name you own it. But in some states it is called marital property and you could get in trouble for doing that.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Since the car was purchased while you are married, it belongs to both of you. No, you cannot change the locks. If you do, you would need to give him the new key. Good luck!I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
It sounds like you have much bigger problems than the locks on your car...I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
    Tracey,

I'm sensing some tension between you and your husband. In marriage there is no more %26quot;mine%26quot; and %26quot;yours%26quot;, there's only %26quot;ours%26quot;. If your name is the only name on the loan, and you're paying for it out of a bank account that is only in your name, then i think it's safe to say the car is yours, and you can do with it what you please.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
If you are married...you both own it....he has the right just as much as you do.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
The car belongs 2 the person whose name is on the registration but since u both r married u both have the right 2 use it..... n only 1 saying that it is his/her's is not right .... u should learn 2 share things with yur partner.. I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
you're married right? The two you!!I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Why get married and then worry about what belongs to whom??I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
This is your car, and I am sure you did not need anyone to validate that for you. If you do not want your husband to use your car, then tell him, and if he does, tell him that you are going to call the police, and report it stolen. Yes you can change the locks, but it is expensive.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
The legal owner is the person named on the title and/or the registration as the %26quot;registered owner%26quot;.

It is probably less expensive to put a security system on it than to re-key the locks.

I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Whoever the two of you agree it belongs to.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
If you're married, it belongs to both of you.

I will never understand why married people insist on %26quot;I pay for this%26quot; or %26quot;this is mine.%26quot; You're married, people. Get your finances in a joint bank account and stop separating things! Marriage = everything belongs to both of you, 50/50. I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
who evers name is on the lease I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
both but the real question is why do you want to change the locks? I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
The car belongs to the person who's name is on the car's title. If you decide to change the locks on the car make sure you have a bag packed since you may find his next set is to change the locks on the house.

You must realize that if you are at the point of changing locks your relationship is pretty much over. What is your real issue of your husband driving the car. That apparently is not the real issue here.

I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
Who's name is on the loan for the car or on the title for the car?

The answer to my question is the answer to yours.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
It belongs to both of you. You can change the locks but he still has rights to the car so don't waste your time and money. He might just change the locks on your house - you will eventually get in but you will be inconvenienced and angry which will put more negativity in the marriage you have left.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
    Can we say stingy wife?

Whats mine is my husbands and whats his is mine... and we share our cars....

Man... other greedy wife who gives the good ones a bad name.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
If you want to break this down...so if your husband purchased your house but you use it too, who does the house belong to?

Can your husband change the locks on the house?I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
The car belongs to both of you. Your married now, all property is 50/50I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?
If you are paying...you own the vehicle. It is probably registered in your name. Since you are married, he has rights to it...so you need to talk to him and set him straight.I am married and have purchased a car and paying for it. My husband drives it as well, who does the car belong?

Changing the battery on a car remote key?

we have an '05 Pontiac Grand Prix that has remote control for a key that locks/unlocks the doors and trunks as well sets a car alarm off. however the battery is dying and we cannot figure out how to remove the back to get to the battery. we have no actual key to unlock the doors, it only came with a key for engine so we cannot lock or unlock our car without the remote.Changing the battery on a car remote key?
The fob either snaps together or has a small machine Phillips head screw holding it together in the middle.

    Mine just snaps together, fwiw.

Take a flat head screwdriver or butter knife and pry it apart on the side. Snap it back together after replacing the battery.

Changing door locks on my 1995 Toyota Corolla?

I need to change both the driver side and passenger side door locks on my car. The key does not open either door, nor the trunk. It works in the ignition. It USED to work in the driver's side door, but one day stopped turning. We had to break the window to get in. It has power locks and windows on the inside. When you are inside the car and pushing the button to unlock (or lock) sometimes it will not work. It makes sound like it is trying, but then won't pop the lock.

Anyway, how difficult is it to change these? Where can I find the parts because I can't seem to find them online? How will the situation with keys work (one key, two keys)? How much do you think it'd be to get it done at an auto shop? I need all the help I can get.

I just need it fixed, I really don't care how it gets there as long as it's not super expensive.Changing door locks on my 1995 Toyota Corolla?
Auto parts stores like %26quot;AUTOZONE%26quot; sell keyed lock sets that allow you to replace as many lock sets as you want.I recomend just replacing the door locks being that the key still works the ignition. As for replacing them it involves removing the inner door panel and anything under or on it and reaching up into the door and removing the actuator rods from the old lock and removing the old lock assembly which should be held in by a spring loaded clip and then reversing the disasembly procedure. If you don't feel that your mechanical skills are up to doing it yourself having a TRUSTED MECHANIC do it should not be that expensive.Changing door locks on my 1995 Toyota Corolla?
If it sounds like it's trying, it could be the power door lock actuator. I don't have any info on the cost of those though.

Before you do that, have you tried spraying some WD40 into the lock? Just push the straw through the little cover, and give it a good hosing. Especially if you mainly used to use the remote, rather than the key, and regardless, the cylinders could just be rusted or oxidized inside.Changing door locks on my 1995 Toyota Corolla?
I expect that the grease has hardend up. I had that problem with my trunk lock and just squirted some WD-40 in it and it freed up. The WD-40 can will come with a piece of plastic spaghetti that can be jammed into the spray head so you can get the solvent right in the lock.

If your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?

If your roommate went out Friday night in a friend's car with 4 other people, and didn't' realize until Monday that their keys had been left in the backseat, would you ask the roommate to change the house locks? Afterall anyone could have made copies of the keys during that time. This friend said they didn't discover the keys until Monday when they were cleaning the backseat of the car.If your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?
i think it really depends on the neighborhood if its not to trusting then yea i would suggest putting on locks otherwise i think no need =)If your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?
I wouldn't bother, but if you have a hangup about it, offer to split the cost to get them changed. Or you could tell your landlord and see if you can get him/her to do itIf your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?
Depends how trustworthy your room mates 'friends' are. Some people out there you can trust...others you can't. If you own the house though, and you are worried, why not!If your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?
have them change hte locks for sure, thats a big no-no on their part... not only make them change the locks, make them pay for it hehe =]If your roommate lost house keys in a friends car but they were returned 2 days later would you change locks?
Probably not. If they were in the backseat the whole time who would get a hold of them? Who would copy them? Do you know the people your roommate went with? If you trust the people they were with I wouldn't worry about. And how would anyone know where the keys belonged to if they copied them? You'd have to try a million cars and houses to figure it out unless the keys had your exact address on them. Don't fret. No one wants random keys.

How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?

To open it, i figured out that i had to pull a little lever inside, and then pull a lever on the hood itself while i was opening it.

I tried to just close it but its stuck in that position like it was when i had only pulled the lever on the inside, its loose but its locked at the same time.

anyone know? 07 honda cr-v if that helps. thanks! How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?
Open it up again, and then slam the hood down.

The reason your hood is in that limbo state is because you did not shut it hard enough. How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?
reopen the hood then go back inside the car and manually push the release lever to assure it is in the closed position then try to close the hood. Let it drop a bit like from 12 inches or so. this should do it.How do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?
    HI

First open it back up and make sure nothing is in the way of it closing.. If there is nothing in the way then go inside the car and make sure the lever in side is all the way back in sometimes they get stuck in the open position.

    good luck

timHow do i close the hood of my car after changing a battery?
just push down firmly on the front and it should latch on the primary latch. be sure to check on the inside release to see that it hs pushed back to its normal postion (un-released) as it may prevent the hood from latching if the release is stuck in the open position.

How to add power locks and windows to my car ?

I was wondering if its possible to change my manual windows and locks to electric. i have a 1993 civic hatchback. i was thinking about buying doors from the scrap yard that are electric but there's no were to put the wires. Is this possible tho and how can i get it done ?How to add power locks and windows to my car ?
When you're at the auto recycle yard (they don't call em 'scrap yards' anymore), also get the grommet (small rubber doughnut type things) that protect the wires from the metal edge of the body.

It will be VASTLY easier if the doner doors have the switches in the arm rests (most do) - then you just provide power (and ground).

The wires will have to go through the body of your car at a point the matches up with where they come out of the recycled doors.

Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?

    yes,

at the dealership it will cost more that the the original option cost on the car.

most aftermaket shops sell this kind of stuff, power locks can be integrated into an alarmIs it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
You can get it done but it costs a lot. My friend had hers changed to power locks, front doors only, and had an alarm system installed and just that cost her $300.Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
Yes but its a lot of work..

you will find that most of the wiring is there and that you just need to plug some things in. but you will be dropping some coin on this one! not to mention having to tear your doors apart is an experience in itself.. you;ll need special tools to get clips of without damaging them or the door panel.. stuff like that...Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
yes, and $300 isn't a lot of money ,drop it off at the stereo shop pick it in a few hoursIs it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?

It wouldnt be cheap I would just buy what your looking for cuz you wont like the price to change all of that over.Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
You can buy kits for about anything. So I would say yes.Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
Yes possible but expensive. Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
If the same model of car was made with power locks and mirrors, it -might- be possible to get those parts off a junked car in a junkyard and put them on your car. It would be a lot of trouble! A mechanic would have to charge you for a lot of time, so it would be expensive unless you could do it yourself.

A dealer, forget it. They're going to have to order new parts and that, plus the time, might cost more than the car is worth! Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
You could also trying buying the parts used from a wrecking yard. If these were options on that model of car you could get them fairly cheap. You might need to do some wiring though. Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
You would be looking between $1500.00 to $3000.00 to add these items to this vehicle. Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
Yea, it is possible. When manufacturing auto's, it is cheaper for the company to make the basic foundations all the same. This means that all the same holes for mounting the motors which move the locks and windows up and down should already be their. Later on down the assembly line, some models get the upgraded equipment and some don't. Either way, they don't have to use a dx frame for a dx model or an ex frame for and ex model car. All models use the same frame. You will most likely have to have the wiring run and the actuator motors installed. You can go with all factory parts, which will probably be very very expensive. It seems anything ordered OEM always is. My advice to you is to look for an aftermarket brand. Back when mini trucks were popular, adding power locks and windows was a popular modification and I remember seeing many kits advertised in the magazines. These would most likely be cheaper, while not being a direct bolt in affair. The route I would take, would be to scour ebay and auto wrecking yards and get all the parts you need. Then take them and have them installed at a garage, if you are not handy enough to perform the installation yourself. Had you ask this question two years ago, when I totaled my Civic EX, I would have sold you all the stuff dirt cheap. That would have been about the only thing left on my car that worked. heheh It was in bad shape. As it was, the junkyard got it all. My point is that these parts should not be hard to find in good working order, at a wrecking yard. If you do have garage install them, their fee will probably be a bit on the expensive side. Hopefully, you have a garage that doesn't charge outrageous hourly fee's. Do not take it to a Honda dealer to have the work done. They are the most expensive places around and will charge you an arm and a leg. Take it to a small town or at least a smaller reputable garage to have it done. It will be cheaper.

P.S. I just noticed that you said your car was a 2005. I didn't realize this till after I had written my answer. What I said, still applies, but you might have a bit harder time finding the parts. It is still do able though. Just price everything out first, and you will be good.Is it possible to get power locks, mirrors and keyless entry for a car that came without them?
Yep it is possible but it can be pricey!

this is a terrible answer! Of course you can put power locks on a car. I just did it with a Ford ranger last week! Works great and put an alarm on as well. The aftermarket system works better than the original dealer system and the alarm and locks can be activated from a much further distance away.

You should call around to the better specialty type of stereo/alarm/customization shops and find one that can do this for a price you like. Go to one nearby, maybe the next town over or something, you shouldn't have to go too far. I would not go to a chain store or a %26quot;1 dollar install%26quot; type of place, they are not going to take their time and will have inexperienced technicians in most cases. Is there any way i can add power windows and door locks to my car?

i just brought a car last year with no power windows or door locks. Is there any way that i can change my vehicle to have power windows and door locks? Who should i talk to? Around how much does it cost?Is there any way i can add power windows and door locks to my car?
Most custom accessory shops perform this type of conversion. Anyone who specializes in the high powered sound systems and custom vehicle conversions can do this. There are also kits that you can buy in the JC Whitley catalog however they require a great deal of expertise in order to make them work.

Also, you could go to the scrap yard and take the power accessories off of a vehicle identical to yours and fit them on to your car so that you would have the %26quot;factory%26quot; look. If your car is new, you might have to use the parts from an earlier model year unless the changes between this year and last are are significant. As with the other idea, this requires some degree of expertise and it will take a great deal of work to do it and/or figure out how to do it because nobody writes an instruction manual on how to do this.Is there any way i can add power windows and door locks to my car?
Yes there is. Contact a company called Godgather Customs or another place called Stylin Concepts. They both can steer you in the right direction.

Why do the parking lights keep flashing after changing a car battery?

I recently took my 1997 Subaru Impreza to get a new battery. After they installed the battery, the parking lights flashed, and continued to flash, even after starting, moving, and locking and unlocking the doors. One mechanic suggested to use the remote lock and unlock device. We drove all the way home with the lights flashing, found the little wireless remote to unlock the doors, pressed the button and the flashing stopped. I was just wondering why the car would do that or what its for? Most of the people there said they have never seen it before. Why do the parking lights keep flashing after changing a car battery?
It was the security system needed to be reset. Very common when battery has been disconnected especially if secyrity was activated when battery failed. Why do the parking lights keep flashing after changing a car battery?
You were lucky the seller of the battery installed it. My problem was the alarm went off with the lights flashing and stopped only after I finished installing the battery. It's just another feature to frustrate the vehicle owner.

  • Is there any recourse from insurance on a stolen and wrecked car for mental anguish?

My purse was stolen from my husbands car with my car keys. The same thieves stole my car car 2 weeks later using my car keys that my insurance refused to change locks on. My car then was used in a crime and then wrecked and totaled. This was my baby in perfect order. Is there and legal grounds for mental anguish? This happened in Las Vegas NVIs there any recourse from insurance on a stolen and wrecked car for mental anguish?
You could bring a separate lawsuit up against the people who stole your car, but as far as trying to get money from your insurance company regarding mental anguish, no way.

Even trying to sue the thieves will probably go nowhere, they are probably dirt poor scum and heading to prison anyways. You wont get anything out of them.Is there any recourse from insurance on a stolen and wrecked car for mental anguish?
No. Your insurance covers only direct physical damage; consequential losses like mental anguish aren't included. They'd be impossible to prove, anyway.

My car Radio is locked after changing my battery anyone know the unlock code?

No - that is the point, to avoid the radio being valuable to thieves. You don't mention make, model, or year, so I don't know if any of the shortcuts (like the Honda website available to American owners). apply. The certain way to get it, if you can't find it on a sticker in the glovebox or on the owner's manual, is to go to the dealer. You will have to prove ownership and maybe pay a fee. I like to email things like unlock codes to myself so I can get to it later but thieves can't.

What should I do if my spare car key is stolen?

my spare car key is stolen and I want to change the car lock, does anyone know where can I ask for help? Thanks! What should I do if my spare car key is stolen?
If you lost your keys some where where no one knows where you live, do nothing. nothing going to happen.

if you lost you keys somewhere where they have your address and where the car is parked. just call the insurance and make sure you have good covage and relaxe. even if the keys are found on your car in the ignition with the car running. if they take it its grand theft. big time in jail for a used car. What should I do if my spare car key is stolen?
A locksmith could probably do the job, but it would be best to get it done at a dealer. Could be pricey, although leaving your ignition key the same would probably save a good amount of money. What should I do if my spare car key is stolen?
There are several ways to get this done from someone who this has happened too. First and foremost go to your Car Dealership and they can do a complete job. Or go to a hardware store and see if they have any and if they do take it to a Service Station with a mechanic who can replace the complete lock inside your car. Or if you are knowedgeable or have a friend who is you can buy it and do it yourself. So make your own choice. I am wishing you luck as you and I know this is very important. I have my spare set and make sure it stays with me. Good Luck.

  • Where to get the locks changed on a car?

Hi! I was wondering what kind of places will change the locks of a car? Would an ordinary garage do that, or are there specialists who handle that kind of thing? Is it very expensive? Our car was stolen almost 2 weeks ago and we actually got it back today. (YAY!) But the punk still has the keys and he could have seen our address on the registration in the glove compartment (though he didn't actually take the documents). We'd like to get the locks changed asap so we don't have to look out the window every 10 minutes to make sure it's still there. Thanks!Where to get the locks changed on a car?
Yes,i guess insurance would agree on repairs.

What is required if a full lock kit,if the ign key is coded it will cost much more then a normal key.

Would get quotes from authorized work shops.

Are Car Dealer Required To Provide A Wheel Lock Key On A Used Car With Wheel Locks?

I bought a used Scion with custom wheels. I asked the sales person if there were wheel locks on the car. He told me no. I did not think to look. Now I realize that the wheels have a strange type of lug nut. They look like wheel locks. Normally Toyota has a 21MM nut on them. Is the dealer required to proved the key to get these lug nuts off? I know that they are required to provide tire changing tools. Are Car Dealer Required To Provide A Wheel Lock Key On A Used Car With Wheel Locks?

Are Car Dealer Required To Provide A Wheel Lock Key On A Used Car With Wheel Locks?
Most used cars are sold as is. the dealer said there were out wheel locks on the car. I would think he wouldnt lie but he didnt know. Keys are hard to come by for a reason but the dealer may tell you who he got the car from, write to him and ask.

Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?

    Hi,

I recently bought a 1990 Toyota Celica and the locks are frubared! The driver's side door lock is broken and the passenger side door has a fragment of key stuck in it so I can't use the spare keys in either lock. I have to leave the car unlocked with a club on it. I really want to get the locks replaced, but can I do it, and do I have to change the ignition too? Can I also get a round about price to accomplish this? It has power locks by the way. Any suggestions? I appreciate it!Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
Have locksmith install new lock coded to current keys to replace the broken one and remove the broken key from the other one.Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
You can replace the locks in the doors without replacing the ignition key you will just have two keys instead of one. Replacing the locks in the doors can be done, but it isn't easy. If you know what you are doing it still takes a hour or so for each lock to replace. A shop may charge around 45 to 75 an hour for labor. Not sure on the price of the lock cylinders, if you can find used one it would be cheaper than new ones. Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
Rich man's way: a decent locksmith should be able to re-key your door locks to match your ignition key. However this person's services may not come cheap. In fact this person might be the Toyota dealer, and they might not be able to get those parts anymore.

    Poor man's way:

    Step 1, find a Pick-n-Pull.

Step 2, find a Toyota that's compatible with yours (might be more than '90 Celicas).

Step 3, see if the ignition key was left in the car somewhere.

Step 4, see if it has as many locks as you need.

Step 5, see if they all work.

Step 6, repeat steps 1-5 until you find a suitable donor car.

Step 7, strip all the locks from all over the car.

Step 8, install all that on your own car.

Done it, works, cheap, but what a pain. Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
You can switch the door locks without having to change the ignition switch, just remember you will need two different keys for the ignition and the doors. Don't worry about your power door locks working as they usually don't differentiate between locks. Just get 2 new door locks so you can lock your car, they shouldn't be to pricey, go to or call several parts stores to get an estimate. Can I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
i suggest taking it in to a honda dealer to have the door locks removed and the tumbler housings replaced or rekeyed . that and the ignition is not an easy task unless the job go's to a professional that has worked with these cars . if you chose to have someone try to do this that does not have the experience,, damage could be done upon removal. at any rate it wont be cheep . perhaps as much as a few hundred dollarsCan I change the car door locks on my 1990 Toyota Celica?
Changing door locks is a fairly simple operation. Remove door panels with window rolled all the way up remove plastic moisture barrier or just peel it back and tape it out of the way. With flashlight look inside door at the latch mechanism (should be easily visible) you will see 4 rods 2 vertical and 2 horizontal. you need to disconnect the 2 vertical ones, will either just POP in or will have a plastic clip you rotate to disengage from rod then pop rod out. Now feel around up inside and find the door handle from the inside. There will be between 2 and 4 10mm nuts holding handle assembly in place remove them and take door handle and rods out of door now you can see how lock cylinder is attached. remove and replace lock. when you put door latch assembly back in do not OVER tighten those are bolts molded into plastic. if you over tighten the plastic will break and you will need to replace door handle too.

I consider this a good amateur job pretty simple to do not hard to reach or anything and you can see what you are doing. you usually only need a 3 and 2 phillips to remove door panel and a 10mm wrench or socket if there is room.

You will of course have 2 different keys for your car now but that isn't that big a deal, and as someone else said a lock smith can probably fix that if you take him locks before you install them. Will cost ya though lock smiths don't come cheap.

    Of course
