Having recovered a stolen car for the police..?

A friends car was stolen recently, and I came across it after having my suspicions regarding a gang of car thieves on a local estate. The police recovered it and have had it a week conducting FORENSIC examinations.

My friend has just been phoned up by the local police station and asked to come and collect his car, as they cant carry out forensics because it is LOCKED, and they are not aloud to break in. By the way the car key was stolen in a buglary and the car taken...!

This beggars belief, that they cannot perform fornesics on a stolen car because it is locked.....!

My friend, who by the way has to have the locks changed anyway, is now on the way down to the police station to break in herself....!

Migration is looking better and better like the best option for hard working families these days...!

Opinions please...!Having recovered a stolen car for the police..?
Your friend's stolen car is not the only case the police are performing forensic examinations on. These searches and tests take TIME. It is not like TV where one case is all that is worked by a lab. Labs assign a number to the evidence and examine it in turn.

When they discovered the car was locked, they had to notify the owner. Just because the police have the car does not mean they can deliberately damage it (which would contaminate evidence anyway). I suspect they hoped she would have a spare key, since she does not their policy may require her presence for a forced entry.Having recovered a stolen car for the police..?
I would checks this again with your local Police as it may be a regional thing. I have recovered locked cars before and they have been examined by forensics.Having recovered a stolen car for the police..?
If the police break into the car and cause damage they have to pay for it, Your, Friend, who is the owner of the car assumes the liability for the damage by doing it herself
