If you left, and he lives there, then you lost your right to come and go as you please. I would change the locks too. The better way to handle it, would be to ask him when can you come and get all of your stuff. So you won't have to talk or see him again. Depends on the state. In some states once a spouse leaves and the one that stayed at the house changes the locks it becomes their house unless a court rules differently.
The idea is you gave up rights to the property once you left.
